Trouble With HygieneBy Taisha Grant
Most people realize the importance of good hygiene, and bathe regularly to make sure that they are clean. They also brush and floss their teeth like they are supposed to, as well as keep their clothes clean. They may even indulge in nice-smelling perfumes or colognes in order to enhance their scent. These are all things that normal people do, correct? Well, sometimes people have hygiene problems, causing them to offend others around them with bad breath, dirty, stain-covered clothes, as well as a pungent body odor. Why is this? Why do some people walk around, with poor hygiene, yet act like they are totally oblivious to the fact that they smell horrible? Well, there are many reasons for this.
First of all, a person may be able to function normally, but may be somewhat mentally retarded. These people can often hold down regular jobs, drive cars, and even live in their own house. The one problem that some of them will have, though, is poor hygiene. They don’t take regular baths or purchase the proper personal products, such as deodorant or good, quality soap, in order to prevent developing a body odor. Their homes may not be clean, either, and they may have clothes strewn about, enabling pets to urinate on their clothes, and the person may just pick them up out of the floor and wear them. They may be so used to the unpleasant odors that it doesn’t smell bad to them. A person like this may simply need a friend to take them under their wing, to show the mentally challenged person how to properly clean their body and apartment, in order to prevent the person from offending others. Most people have never been taught proper hygiene, so this would be especially helpful for such a person.
Another reason that people have poor hygiene is that may suffer from some type of glandular problem. Glandular problems cause some individuals to sweat profusely, resulting in unpleasant body odor. People who suffer from this type of problem are usually very meticulous about showering, yet no matter how many baths they take, they still manage to smell repulsive. This can be quite embarrassing, but there is help for people who suffer from this type of problem. A doctor can prescribe special prescription-strength deodorants, as well as medication to lessen the perspiration.
Once people with poor hygiene clean up their acts, they might find that they enjoy smelling good so much that they want to purchase perfume and other nice-smelling fragrances in order to smell even better.
